Privacy Policy
Summary
We respect your privacy. Scanlyx is a document scanning app that stores your documents locally on your device. We use Google AdMob to show ads (for non-premium users) and RevenueCat to manage premium subscriptions. Premium features include cloud sync via iCloud, OCR text recognition, PDF tools, and ad removal. We collect only what's needed to run ads, verify purchases, enable cloud sync for premium users, diagnose problems, and improve stability. Some data may be linked to your identity (e.g., device identifiers, purchase records). Certain data is also used for tracking in the advertising context (AdMob), which is disclosed to you through Apple's App Tracking Transparency (ATT) prompt.
Data We Collect & Why
1) Identifiers
- Device IDs (e.g., IDFA/Advertising Identifier when tracking is allowed), User IDs (anonymous in-app or vendor IDs).
- Purpose: third-party advertising (AdMob for non-premium users), analytics, and core app functionality (purchase state validation, cloud sync identification).
- Tracking: Yes — when you allow tracking via ATT prompt.
2) Usage Data
- Product interaction (ad views/clicks, feature usage), advertising data (impressions, performance), and other usage stats (aggregated).
- Purpose: third-party advertising (AdMob), analytics, app functionality; may support personalization by AdMob if allowed.
- Tracking: Product interaction & advertising data may be used for tracking by AdMob (non-premium users only).
3) Purchases (Financial Info)
- Purchase history and transactions processed via Apple with server-side validation through RevenueCat.
- Purpose: app functionality (unlock premium features: no ads, OCR, PDF tools, passcode, cloud sync), analytics, and subscription management.
- Tracking: Not used by us for tracking.
4) Location (Coarse)
- Approximate location inferred from IP address (country/region/city; no precise GPS location).
- Purpose: ad delivery for non-premium users, frequency capping, compliance, and analytics; may support ad personalization depending on your consent.
- Tracking: We do not use coarse location itself for tracking.
5) Diagnostics
- Crash data and performance data (device model, OS version, stack traces) collected by Apple and, if enabled, the OS.
- Purpose: app functionality — debugging, reliability, stability, and support.
- Tracking: No.
6) Camera & Photo Library Access
- We request access to your camera and photo library to scan documents and import images.
- All scanned documents and images are stored locally on your device. We do not upload, process, or share your documents with third parties.
- Exception: Premium users who enable iCloud Sync can optionally sync their documents to their personal iCloud account (see section below).
- Purpose: core app functionality — document scanning, importing, and storage.
- Tracking: No. Your documents never leave your device unless you explicitly enable iCloud sync (premium feature).
7) Text Recognition (OCR)
- Premium feature: Optical Character Recognition (OCR) to extract text from scanned documents.
- All text recognition is performed locally on your device using Apple's on-device Vision Framework. No text data is sent to external servers.
- Purpose: app functionality — extract searchable text from documents.
- Tracking: No.
8) iCloud Sync (Premium Feature)
- Premium users can enable optional iCloud sync to backup and sync their documents across Apple devices signed in with the same iCloud account.
- When enabled, document metadata and images are uploaded to your personal iCloud storage using Apple's CloudKit framework.
- We do not have access to your iCloud data; it is stored in your Apple iCloud account and protected by Apple's security measures.
- Purpose: app functionality — cloud backup and multi-device sync for premium users.
- Control: You can enable/disable iCloud sync in app settings. You can also manage iCloud storage in iOS Settings → iCloud.
9) Passcode Protection (Premium Feature)
- Premium users can set a passcode to protect the app.
- Passcodes are stored securely on your device only using iOS Keychain. We never have access to your passcode.
- Purpose: app security and privacy.
10) Other Data Types
- Minimal technical telemetry required to keep the app secure and stable (e.g., app version, device type, preferences, fraud prevention, restore purchases).
- Purpose: app functionality only.
Advertising & Personalization
Scanlyx uses Google AdMob to serve ads to non-premium users. Premium users do not see ads. Depending on your region and choices:
- ATT consent (iOS): If you tap "Allow" on the tracking prompt, AdMob may use your device's Advertising Identifier (IDFA) to deliver personalized ads and measure performance across apps (tracking). If you tap "Ask App Not to Track", AdMob receives non-personalized signals and shows contextual ads.
- Ad Display: Ads are shown after scanning documents and when exporting PDFs (non-premium users only).
- Remove Ads: Premium users never see ads and AdMob tracking is disabled.
AdMob Privacy: policies.google.com/technologies/ads • SKAdNetwork may be used for conversion attribution.
Premium Subscription & Features
- We use RevenueCat to securely validate Apple in-app purchases (no credit-card data is processed by us; all payments are handled by Apple).
- When you purchase Scanlyx Premium, you unlock:
- No Ads: All ads are removed and AdMob tracking is disabled.
- OCR Text Recognition: Extract text from scanned documents (on-device processing).
- PDF Tools: Merge, split, compress, and convert PDFs.
- Passcode Protection: Secure your app with a passcode.
- iCloud Sync: Backup and sync documents across your Apple devices.
- Priority Support: Faster customer support response.
- You can restore purchases anytime via the "Restore" option in-app.
- Subscriptions are managed through your Apple ID and can be cancelled in iOS Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions.

Your Choices
- ATT Prompt: Allow or deny tracking at first launch or later in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
- Reset IDFA: iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking / Advertising.
- Camera/Photos Access: Manage permissions in iOS Settings → Scanlyx → Camera/Photos.
- iCloud Sync: Enable/disable in Scanlyx app settings (premium users only).
- Disable Ads Entirely: Upgrade to Scanlyx Premium to remove all ads and tracking.
Data Retention
We retain data only as long as necessary for the purposes described above or as required by law:
- Documents & Scans: Stored locally on your device until you delete them. If iCloud sync is enabled (premium), they remain in your iCloud until you delete them or disable sync.
- Diagnostic Logs: Retained by Apple per their policies.
- Purchase Records: Retained by RevenueCat as necessary to validate entitlements and combat fraud.
- Ad Data: Retained by AdMob per Google's policies (non-premium users only).
Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect your data:
- Local Storage: Documents are stored securely on your device with iOS file system protection.
- Passcode Protection: Optional passcode stored in iOS Keychain (premium feature).
- iCloud Encryption: Data synced to iCloud is protected by Apple's encryption and security measures.
- Transport Security: All network communications use HTTPS/TLS.
- Server-side Validation: Purchase validation via RevenueCat's secure servers.
No method is 100% secure, but we continually improve safeguards and follow Apple's best practices.
Children
Scanlyx is not directed to children under the age where parental consent is required by local law (typically under 13 or 16 depending on jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we inadvertently collected data from a child, contact us and we will take appropriate action to delete it.
Your Rights
Depending on your location (e.g., EEA/UK under GDPR; California under CCPA/CPRA), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of your personal data, and to object to certain uses.
- Access/Deletion: Contact us with your request and device details. For locally stored documents, you can delete them directly in the app. For purchase data, we may ask you to verify ownership from the device where the App is installed.
- Ads Settings: Manage ATT/IDFA in iOS Settings and AdMob consent where shown.
- iCloud Data: Manage in iOS Settings → iCloud or disable sync in Scanlyx settings.
- Data Portability: We can provide a copy of purchase-related data we control (not Apple's transactional records). Your documents are already stored on your device and can be exported as PDFs.
International Transfers
AdMob (Google) and RevenueCat may process data on servers located outside your country. These providers use appropriate safeguards (e.g., standard contractual clauses, Privacy Shield frameworks where applicable) as described in their privacy notices. iCloud data is stored in Apple's global infrastructure according to Apple's iCloud terms.
Third-Party Services
Scanlyx integrates the following third-party services:

The App may link to third-party websites or content we do not control. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Policy to reflect changes in the App, new features, or legal requirements. Material changes will be highlighted in-app or via an updated effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
